Bredon Cricket Club’s outing to New Road

crowd at new road cricket ground

What a crowd! Bredon Cricket Club helped swell the attendance at New Road today

What a day! Sunshine, showers, beer, sarnies and lots of cricket!

Bredon Cricket Club even had a century to cheer during their outing to New Road.

A high-spirited group of adults and youngsters enjoyed the day courtesy of Worcestershire County Cricket Club (and Mark Notley, who secured the tickets).

Our bus left for New Road after bacon rolls in the clubhouse and we arrived at New Road under ominous grey skies.

Fortunately, the clouds soon blew over and we enjoyed a day that was generally sunny and warm.

The youngsters had a chance for game on the New Road pitch between innings, and they formed a guard of honour to welcome the teams back onto the pitch. An experience they will long remember!

We cheered Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s magnificent first 50-over century, but were disappointed to see him dismissed for 119.

Northamtonshire eventually beat Worcestershire by 23 runs in the One-Day Cup match.

Worcestershire’s defeat was their third in the Cup, but they have a game in hand and are still in with a shout of a last-eight place.

The bus was ready and waiting at the entrance to New Road to take us home in time for a late tea. What a cracking day out!

How we rolled back the years to the Eighties and Nineties

New Romantics: We rolled back the years to the Eighties and Nineties at the clubhouse on Saturday

Oh, how we rolled back the years on Saturday night!

There was some outrageous gear on show at our retro Eighties and Nineties school disco.

Party-goers embraced the spirit of the evening with some fabulous costumes inspired by the likes of Don Johnson (Miami Vice) and Cyndi Lauper (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun).

Prize for the best outfit went to Sarah Coombes. Congratulations!

Thanks to Will and Jen for organising the event, and all those who attended.

Family fun day cancelled

Sad news. Our family fun day for Sunday, July 31, is cancelled. Picture: Feans

Sorry, folks, but our family fun day scheduled for Sunday, July 31, has been cancelled.

Our busy social programme for the season has made it impossible for the club to handle this event.

We will try to organise it for a later date if possible.

Hope no one is too disappointed.

All aboard the charabanc! We’re off for a day at the cricket!

Bredon Cricket Club has secured tickets for the Worcestershire Rapids v Northamptonshire one-day match at New Road, Worcester, on Wednesday, July 27.

We have arranged for a coach to take us there from Hill Close at 9.15am sharp.

But from 8.30am we’re serving up free bacon rolls at the clubhouse.

The price of the outing, including match ticket and return coach travel, is just £10 per person.

It will make an ideal family day out in the first week of the school summer holidays.

It is a 50-over match. The first innings is from 11am to 2pm, and the second from 2.45pm to 6.45pm.

Anyone who would like to come should contact Neil Hall on 07824 365055 or Mark Notley on 07843 209896.

What are you wearing at our Saturday night disco?

Looking for inspiration? Eighties band Spandau Ballet at the height of their popularity

Don’t forget that Bredon Cricket Club is turning back the clock to revisit those fabulous songs from the Eighties and Nineties on Saturday night (July 23).

We’ll be playing some of the biggest hits of the two decades at our school disco retro night.

But it won’t be just the music from the past you’ll be enjoying… we’ll be selling selected drinks at 90s prices too (though we can’t guarantee to have Hooch, Lambrini, or Skol lager in stock).

Why not really let your hair down and come in fancy dress? The theme is 1980s and 1990s school disco, and there’ll be a prize for the best male and female outfits.

On a warm night in July it’s the perfect place to remember those uh, oh, summer nights!

Tickets cost £5 on the door, and the bar opens at 7.30pm.

England are out but the Euro 2016 excitement continues at Bredon Cricket Club, where we’re all Welsh now!

Wales face Portugal on Wednesday, July 6, for a place in the final, and we’ll be showing the match at our Hill Close clubhouse.

Football fans will be keen to see how the teams’ two superstars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, compare, and if Wales can turn in another giant-killing performance. They beat highly rated Belgium to earn a place in this semi-final.

This time, though, Chris Coleman’s men will be without Aaron Ramsey and Ben Davies, who picked up bookings in their last game.

Kick-off is at 8pm, and our bar will be open (check out our competitive prices below). See you there!

Club’s fund-raising race night is a winner

Here’s just a brief taste of last night’s race night at the club (here’s what it was all about).

It was great fun, and raised vital funds for the club.

Thanks to Johnny McGrath for organising it.

Next big social night is our Eighties and Nineties School Disco on Saturday, July 23. Find our more here.

You’re under starters orders, tomorrow is race night!

And they’re off! Bredon Cricket Club is re-creating the excitement of race-going on Saturday, July 2. Picture: Worcester News

Just a reminder that there is a great night in store at Bredon Cricket Club tomorrow (Saturday, July 2).

We are hosting an exciting evening of racing at our Hill Close clubhouse.

You will be able to stake money on the outcome of recorded races played on a large TV screen. The selection is purely dependent on chance. There are no odds or form to complicate your selection.

The evening’s organiser is a firm that specialises in this sort of event. It brings along all the equipment needed, including eight recorded races, betting slips as well as an experienced master of ceremonies.

There is a proper commentary with each race, and numbers appear on screen to show the audience the position of their horse as the race progresses.

Our bar will, of course, be open throughout.

It all makes for an evening that re-creates the thrilling atmosphere of a visit to the racecourse, and will be a valuable boost to the club’s coffers.

Admission is free, non-members are welcome, and the fun gets under way at 7.30pm.
