Make a date in your diary to head along to Bredon Cricket Club on Grand National Day (Saturday, April 6).

We have a great day lined up that includes some racing action with host Honest Johnny McGrath, live music from the Brethryn (with popular local singer James Caveny) and a barbecue. The clubhouse bar will be open from 1.30pm, and the Brethryn will play from 7pm.

The draw for the group games of the Bredon Hill Bash, the rapidly growing Twenty20 competition just for village teams around the hill, will also be held.

NatWest CricketForce weekend includes Grand National day

Grand National day falls within the ECB-supported NatWest CricketForce weekend, in which clubs throughout the country marshal volunteers to get themselves ready for the new season.

This year work at Hill Close will begin on the Friday evening (April 5) and continue through to the Sunday (April 7). More details nearer the time.

Bredon’s CricketForce Day efforts on Sunday were rewarded with some good coverage in the local press.

The ECB-inspired clean-up features in a page of pictures in the Worcester News, and there is a large picture of Bredon’s volunteers in this week’s Evesham Journal.

Both newspapers are out tomorrow (Thursday, April 7).

Thanks for all your hard work on CricketForce Day

CricketForce Day at Bredon
THANK YOU! A magnificent effort by about 40 people transformed Bredon Cricket Club on Sunday

A message from the club’s CricketForce Day organiser Martyn Draper

I would just like to thank everyone who helped in any way on Sunday on behalf of myself, and particularly Bredon Cricket Club.

The day was a spectacular success, and to get 40 people to give up their Sunday morning to ready the club for the approaching season proves just how much everyone cares about our great club.

Old members, newer members, people who don’t even play but are proud of their community worked so hard.

We got all the essential on-field jobs done very quickly, and then moved onto cleaning, painting and sprucing up the inside of the pavilion.

There is still painting to be done and the flooring is being sanded soon, but once these jobs are completed I think everyone who visits will think Bredon Cricket Club is a thriving, cared for place, and people will enjoy spending many hours there.

Once again thank you for the support!

CricketForce

ECB CricketForce Day 2016 at Bredon Cricket Club starts at 10am on Sunday, April 3.

There is plenty to do before our beautiful Hill Close ground is ready for a new season of cricket.

That is why we welcome any club members, as well as our neighbours in the community, who would like to lend a hand.

We have a variety of jobs that need doing, and we won’t ask anyone to tackle anything they are not entirely comfortable doing.

We will provide volunteers with tea, coffee and bacon sandwiches. And, of course, they will all have our heartfelt thanks!

There is plenty of work to do, but many hands make light work. That is why we have our ECB CricketForce Day 2016 at 10am on Sunday, April 3.

If anyone has any ideas for the clubhouse, such as a new colour scheme or anything else that will enhance our great ground, then let me know, otherwise please use the form below to confirm your attendance as soon as possible so I can allocate people to each job required.

Finally, there will be bacon rolls and refreshments. See you all there!
