Youngsters delighted by All Stars Cricket at Bredon

All Stars Cricket at Bredon Cricket Club
The first session of All Stars Cricket at Bredon gets under way

All Stars Cricket, the new ECB-backed programme of cricket coaching for five to eight-year-olds, got under way at Bredon Cricket Club this afternoon.

More than 20 children turned up for their first lesson in the basics of the game.

It was the third-best attended All Stars session in Worcestershire, a tribute to the club’s growing reputation for the quality of its coaching and friendly welcome.

The All Stars coaching was followed by coaching for the other junior age groups at the club, and it made for a lively evening with dozens of families socialising at our picturesque ground at the foot of Bredon Hill (see video below).

All children attending All Stars receive a backpack of cricket goodies, including a bat, ball, water bottle, personalised shirt and cap to keep.

They will be taught the fundamental skills they need to play, including how to:

  • Catch and throw a ball
  • Hit a moving ball
  • Bowl with a straight arm
  • Play a basic game of cricket
  • Work and communicate as a team
  • Have lots of fun with new friends

All Stars Cricket at Bredon Cricket Club is being led by Tom Walsingham, our DBS-certified new coach.

It is still not too late to sign up for the eight-week programme.

Bookings and payment must be made online at the secure All Stars Cricket site here.

Under 12s bounce back to win by narrow margin

under 11s cricket team
Top team: The Under 12s pictured last season. They’re bigger and better now!

Following defeat in their first game of the season, Bredon Under 12s bounced back with a close victory at Alcester and Ragley Park in a low scoring but very exciting game.

Having been asked to bat first in difficult conditions, Bredon scored 245-6 off their 16 overs.

In reply Alcester and Ragley always appeared to be just ahead, and with their final pair coming to the crease needed six runs to win.

However, Bredon’s bowlers reeled off four tight overs, and, backed up by some top-class fielding, two further wickets were taken and the home side fell three runs short on 242-5.

Under 13s off to flying start

Bredon Under 13s’ season got off to a cracking start with a win over Kenilworth.

Bredon ended the game 293 for 6 against Kenilworth’s 237 for 8.

Coach Mark Notley said: “The boys played really well.

“It was a great all-round performance in the field and batting.

“A great start to the league, giving them confidence going into a tough match this coming Sunday against Alcester. Well done, lads!”

Under 11s in comfortable win against Exhall and Wixford

A solid performance from Bredon’s Under 11s, including some excellent bowling and fielding, saw them post 263 against Exhall and Wixford’s 231 on a sunny Sunday morning in one of the league’s most beautiful grounds.

Six basic cricket skills your child will learn at Bredon Cricket Club

Bredon Cricket Club can teach your child six basic cricket skills that will get them started on the sport.

This month we are launching All Stars Cricket coaching for five to eight-year-olds.

What is All Stars Cricket?

It is an eight-week course that is being backed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the governing body for all cricket in England and Wales.

The programme will take place all across the country over the same period, and it aims to offer children their first taste of Britain’s great summer sport.

They will receive a backpack of cricket goodies, including a bat, ball, water bottle, personalised shirt and cap to keep.

What are the six basic skills they will learn?

All Stars Cricket will teach them all of fundamental skills they need to play, including how to:

    • Catch and throw a ball
    • Hit a moving ball
    • Bowl with a straight arm
    • Play a basic game of cricket
    • Work and communicate as a team
    • Have lots of fun with new friends

Other benefits of All Stars Cricket

Nationally, 500 lucky All Stars (and their parents) will get the chance to meet the likes of Joe Root, Stuart Broad and the rest of the England team.

The winners will attend special All Stars Cricket press conferences where they can pose questions to the England players before a big game, get their autographs and have their photos taken with their new heroes.

All Stars Cricket is fantastic for parents too. For an hour a week mums and dads are invited to get involved and play cricket with their children.

We know this is a great way to spend time with your child and create memories that will last a lifetime.

All Stars Cricket at Bredon Cricket Club is being led by Tom Walsingham, our DBS-certified new coach.

When does it happen, and how much does it cost?

Sessions are held every Friday from 5.30pm until 6.15pm for eight weeks.

The first is on Friday, May 18, 2018.

The course costs £40 per child (participants and/or their parents are not required to be members of Bredon Cricket Club).

The introduction of All Stars Cricket replaces all the club’s existing arrangements for cricket in the five to eight years age group.
