Bredon Cricket Club awards, 2016

The club’s annual dinner was not just about enjoying a drink, curry and music with friends, it was a chance to salute those who have had an outstanding season with the club, for a variety of reasons.

It was a terrific evening in our clubhouse on Saturday night (September 24), and we were entertained by a fantastic performance from local duo Bang Bang Billie.

Top local act to play at our annual dinner

Ready to rock! Bang Bang Billie will provide the musical entertainment at our annual dinner

Top local act Bang Bang Billie has been confirmed as the musical entertainment for Bredon Cricket Club’s annual dinner.

The Broadway-based duo, comprising Billie Brewer on vocals and Chris O’Donoghue on guitar, describe themselves as “an acoustic cacophony that packs a punch!”.

They come highly recommended and are sure to help make the dinner, which is being held at our Hill Close clubhouse at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 24, a lively affair.

The format will be more informal than previous years. The award-winning Rajshahi Indian restaurant in Tewkesbury is laying on a mouthwatering buffet curry.

Our bar, which has been offering a range of super-value drinks promotions all summer, will be open until late.

In addition to the music there will be the usual speeches and presentation of awards.

It will be a chance to chat with friends, look back on another memorable season, and dream of possible glories next year.

All this at the most picturesque venue in Bredon!

Senior members and guests are invited, along with all junior players who have appeared for the club’s Third XI (though they must attend with a parent/carer).

Tickets cost £15 (£10 for juniors) and are on sale from the bar or from treasurer Glenn Buckley on 07920 094688. Please let Glenn know by Friday, September 16, if you will be attending.

Bredon celebrates year of achievement for its young cricketers

young cricketers' fun day
Fun day fun: Bredon’s young cricketers celebrated a year of achievement

Bredon Cricket Club celebrated the achievements of its young players with a fun day at Hill Close.

There was a Kwik Cricket match for the under 9s and a club match for under 11s, 12s and 13s.

Families turned out in numbers, despite the overcast weather.

The clubhouse bar was busy, and there were eager queues for hot dogs and burgers at the barbecue. Tea, coffee and cakes were also on sale.

It was the culmination of a terrific season for the club’s junior cricketers. All have made fabulous progress this year. The Under 9s won a festival at Dumbleton while the Over 12s reached the Cotswold League Shield final.

Well done to all the youngsters and their parents/carers.

Junior cricket coaching on Friday, September 2, is cancelled

Sorry, everyone, but tomorrow’s junior cricket coaching session (Friday, September 2) is cancelled.

Don’t worry, though, the youngsters will not be missing out on their sport this weekend; there will be matches galore at our Family Fun Day at Hill Close on Sunday (September 4).

There will be Kwik Cricket for under 9s, and a club match for under 11, under 12 and under 13 players.

The clubhouse bar will be open, and there will be a barbecue with a free hotdog and burger for all junior players.

The fun starts at Hill Close at 12.30pm. More information here.

Bredon Cricket Club fun day 2016

Our fun day on Sunday, September 4, will be a chance to say well done to our young players

With the end of the season approaching, Bredon Cricket Club is organising a fun day to thank all our young players (and their parents/carers) for their superb efforts this summer.

It will be held on Sunday, September 4, at Hill Close and the format will be as follows:

From 12.30pm: Kwik Cricket match for all under 9s (children who were in school years three and four). We will set up on the junior square and play a pairs match of 8/10/12 per side (the same format as our competition earlier in the season).

From 1pm: Barbecue with a free hot dog or burger for all junior club members.

From 2pm: Club match for all under 11s, under 12s and under 13s players. We are likely to play pairs of 10-a-side, but may need to play 12-a-side depending on the turnout.

The clubhouse bar will be open all afternoon during the fun day, and there will be a cash barbecue for all non-players.

All under 7s junior members are welcome to come along for a free hot dog and to play mini-cricket matches.

For parents/carers it will be an opportunity to relax, enjoy a drink in beautiful surroundings and swap summer holiday stories!

Success for Bredon Cricket Club’s golf day

Bredon Cricket Club swapped bats for clubs for their annual golf day at Tewkesbury Park.

The course was immaculate in the sunshine as about 50 players took to the fairways on Friday, August 12.

The friendly competition was won by John Gregory’s team, thanks in large to an outstanding performance from his young son, Will.

Club chairman Neil Hall thanks all those who took part in the day, especially Gareth Allen, who organised it so well.

Corks will be popping at our Macmillan Ladies Day

The Prosecco is on ice, and we’re counting down the days!

Bredon Cricket Club’s Ladies Day is on Saturday, October 1, and it is going to be a real treat.

As well as plenty of bubbly there will be tea, coffee and cakes.

It will be a chance to meet up with friends, and raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The invitation is open to all women connected to the club, and their guests.

Ideally, we would like to welcome people who have never been to the club before so they can find out what a friendly bunch we are!

The occasion will also give us a chance to say thank you to the magnificent team of volunteers who have served up such highly regarded cricket teas for our players this season.

Our Hill Close clubhouse is open for Ladies Day between 11am and 2pm. Please bring a cake donation if you can.

Use the form below if you have any inquiries, or see Jennie Warren the next time you are at the club.
