Bredon’s CricketForce day 2018

Bredon Cricket Club shook off the mantle of winter and spruced itself up ready for the new season today.

Volunteers turned out at Hill Close to help with the annual tidy-up.

This year it was a little more challenging than usual because of the damage a burst water pipe caused to the clubhouse during particularly cold weather at the beginning of March.

Nevertheless, a small but eager force set to their task with enthusiasm, fuelled by bacon butties, tea and coffee.

Guttering, fascias and soffits were cleaned; the scorebox painted, hedges trimmed and benches stained, among other jobs.

Martyn Draper, who organised the work at Bredon, said: “I would like to thank everybody who came to CricketForce and helped out.”

NatWest CricketForce is a nationwide initiative backed by the ECB. It is designed to bring clubs and local communities closer together, and ensure grounds and facilities are ready for the new season.

The club is now set for its first big event of the year, the family fun day on Sunday, April 15, which heralds the start of a new season.

Help Bredon get ready for the new season at CricketForce Day 2018

Bredon Cricket Club needs your help!

Volunteers are needed at the start of every season to get our clubhouse and pitch at Hill Close ready for the new season.

People from the local community as well as club members are invited to join the clean-up, which is called CricketForce Day 2018.

It is a national initiative backed by NatWest bank and the England and Wales Cricket Board.

You can see our Facebook photo album of last year’s event here.

This year CricketForce Day will be on Saturday, March 24, at Hill Close.

The hard work begins at 9am, and should finish by noon. There will be tea, coffee and bacon rolls to help get you going!

Martyn Draper is once again organising the work, and will be delighted to welcome you to the club.

No expertise is needed; just a willingness to get stuck in!
